The Esteemed Doug Smith Collection of German Lugers and Military (Phase I)
There is no living person today in the world that has handled more collectible Lugers than Mr. Smith. Over the years he has not only traveled throughout North America acquiring single items and entire collections, but also has traveled the length and breadth of Europe, sometimes buying out entire factory or arsenal accumulations. A collector for over 50 years, Doug Smith first began his current collection of Lugers around thirty years ago. At that time, each time he purchased a collection or an entire arsenal of Lugers, he would compare the recently acquired ones to those in his private collection and whenever a recent acquisition proved to be in better condition than that in his personal collection, he upgraded it. In some cases, some examples have been upgraded as many as 3, 5 or 8 times. The result is one of the most extraordinary collections for rarity and condition in the world. Phase I of the Smith Collection will unquestionably be the finest offering of Lugers ever presented at auction for quality and rarity. Please note: In addition to the Luger collection, there are other fine quality military items from this esteemed collection. Also please note that these will be offered in our October sale in conjunction with the Poulin auction which will include Phase II of the extraordinary Bruce Stern Collection of 20th Century Military arms.
